“writing with light”
“TTG will always celebrate the essence of photography. Since the first principle of photography is ‘writing with light,’ that is the first principle of TTG as well.” —FAQ #603
The word “photo-graph” comes from the Greek for “light-drawing” (or, as more commonly put, “writing with light”).
• Some people may recall the “photo” root from learning in school about “photosynthesis” (the synthesis by plants of “light” energy into chemical energy).
• The “graph” root is familiar in English from terms like “web graphics” and “graphic design.”
Because it is at the root of photography, “writing with light” is naturally at the root of TTG, as explained on this page and in this FAQ, among other places.
