circumstances = the conditions surrounding the making of a photo
-
1. The term “circumstances” includes every aspect of the making of a photograph
• the identity and role of the photographer
• the photographer’s equipment choices and camera settings
• the placement of the camera
• changes to the subject before and during the taking of the picture
• things that keep the photo from depicting what it appears to depict
• everything else
-
2. What about when the circumstances of the making of a photograph make an image potentially deceptive or misleading?
Anytime that inapparent circumstances cause the photo to appear to depict something it does not depict, the TTG photographer can use the “presentation” to alert viewers thoroughly enough to meet P8.
See the Key entry on TTG-IC for details.
